Down Mattress Pad vs. Down Mattress Topper: What's the Difference?
Find tips about how to determine whether you need a down mattress pad or a topper for your bed in order to provide extra comfort and to help prolong the life of your mattress.
A down mattress pad is designed to fit on top of your existing mattress and to provide extra comfort as well as perhaps increase the life of your current mattress. The terms mattress pad and bed topper are sometimes used interchangeably but there is actually a difference when comparing the two. Each accessory is made differently and is manufactured to perform a completely different function.
Down Mattress Pads are not as Thick
Mattress pads are usually not as thick as a typical topper. Some are manufactured with cotton that is quilted while some are made with synthetic material for easy cleaning. Most people purchase a pad to mainly protect their mattress from moisture and from becoming soiled. Some of these bedding accessories, however, such as a down mattress pad are used for more than just protecting the mattress.
Most people consider goose down fill to be extremely cozy and soft to sleep on, but don't want something as thick as a heavier topper to sleep on especially if they already have a pillowtop mattress. Most down mattress pads are made with simple baffling to keep the soft down in place so no slippage and matting occurs during use. These accessories are not very thick and provide just enough softness to soothe tired joints.
Toppers are much thicker and heavier than mattress pads and are usually made with larger box baffling designs that also keeps feathers and down in place. Often, these accessories are also filled
with a combination of materials for added thickness such as down, feathers and sometimes a thin
layer of foam or latex. Wool, cotton, and synthetic material can also be used to cover the inner material. There are many types from which to choose from but one of the most comfortable and natural are latex mattress toppers.
Find Unsurpassed Comfort in a Down Mattress Pad
If you don't want to cover your bed with a thick accessory, then a lighter, down filled pad will provide you an extremely comfortable, cool and dry place to sleep. This excellent quality bedding material can last for years and is easy to clean. If you're looking for a mattress accessory that is not too thick but provides instant luxury to your existing mattress, try a down mattress pad for unsurpassed quality.
