Down Alternative Mattress Topper: Why Choose Alternative Down Fill for a Topper?
A down alternative mattress topper is often chosen instead of a natural down fill topper because of several benefits to users. If you're not sure which you prefer, read these helpful facts.
There are several reasons why some people prefer a down alternative mattress topper over a natural goose down fill topper for their bed. Here's why you may also prefer a down alternative topper over other types of mattress toppers.
1. Hypoallergenic fill for some users - While many people prefer to use natural, organic material for their bedding because they want natural, chemical free fill on which to sleep, for other people,
natural down fill can be a problem. Some people suffer from allergic reactions to typical down feathers, but feel fine when they sleep on alternative down fill that provides essentially the same amount of comfort.
Even though down fill is all natural, it does tend to harbor dust and dust mites easily and can become damp if not properly maintained. However, hypodown is a natural, allergy free alternative to typical down fill, but it is quite pricey, so synthetic down material is the material of choice for many people.
Alternative down fill for bedding is generally produced from petrochemicals. It is usually polyester fibers that are soft and resilient. The fibers tends to last a long time and do not compress as easily as natural down material.
2. Easy to maintain - A down alternative mattress topper is easy to keep clean because it is generally machine washable, if not too thick, and can be dried in a home clothes dryer. If you have a thick topper, you can use a commercial washer and dryer to keep it clean. There is no concern about bunching or compressing with synthetic fill material.
3. Cost - Even though there are good quality down alternative mattress toppers available, they do cost less than the same quality of a natural down mattress topper. Microfiber filling costs less to produce and there is no shortage of the material since it is processed from readily available sources.
On the other hand, white goose down that is supplied by down producers, is more limited by the amount of down produced by any one geese farm each year. Especially fine white goose down bedding can be quite expensive.
If you don't want to use a down fill mattress topper, you can always choose a quality down alternative mattress topper on which to sleep that will provide you comfort, hypoallergenic material and easy maintenance at a great price.
